Join local artist Alice Starobina at Happy Reading Children's Bookshop for a creative recycling art workshop inspired by our oceans! Perfect for children aged 4–11, this hands-on workshop invites young artists to transform found and recycled materials into bold, eye-catching posters celebrating our seas and encouraging us all to care for the natural world. Through collage, colour, texture and creative design, children will discover how art can tell powerful stories and inspire positive change. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP What makes a great poster? How can pictures and words work together to tell a story? And how can everyday recycled materials become amazing works of art? Using collected and found materials, children will create their own environmental awareness posters inspired by the sea, experimenting with collage techniques, stencilling and imaginative composition along the way. As they explore colours, textures and unexpected materials, they'll discover that creativity can be found almost anywhere—and that even discarded objects can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful. ABOUT ALICE STAROBINA Alice Starobina is a local artist whose creative workshops encourage children to experiment, explore and express themselves through art. Passionate about sustainability and creative reuse, Alice inspires young makers to see the artistic potential in everyday materials while celebrating the beauty of the natural world. During this creative workshop, children will: 🎨 Create their own environmental awareness poster inspired by the sea ♻️ Explore collage, stencilling and mixed-media art techniques 🌊 Learn how artists use pictures and words to tell powerful stories 🖌️ Experiment with colour, texture and recycled materials 💚 Celebrate creativity while thinking about how we can care for our oceans and environment Whether your child loves crafting, drawing or simply making things with their hands, this welcoming workshop is designed to spark imagination, encourage creativity and inspire a love of our natural world. — and every child will take home their own unique artwork to proudly display at home! Important Information : Suitable for children aged 4 - 11 Event duration: up to 60 minutes Ticket price: £5 per child Booking is essential — spaces are limited! The bookshop is on the first floor, accessed via a flight of stairs. Children will sit/stand at play/craft tables for activities. All materials are provided and age-appropriate. Adults may stay for the event (limited seating available) or relax with a coffee and pastry downstairs in STAPLE . If you can’t attend, please let us know so we can offer your space to another family. Photos may be taken for social media (backs of heads only).
